I would like for my first update after quite a hiatus to be something amazingly delicious, but it just can’t happen. Life has been so busy that I haven’t had much time for cooking recently. Last night was pizza night, and with a quick trip to trader joe’s it all went down the tubes. I have to admit that I love trader joe’s, but sometimes you walk away with a strike out. The only thing that saved the pizza was the amazing crust and pizza sauce that I discovered quite some time ago, and you can’t beat homegrown basil. The sauce has even been enhanced since the last time I posted it. With the addition of a little bit of honey, it is pretty darn close to the perfect sauce.
Anyway, the moral of the story is that it was the trader joe’s chicken spinach and fontina sausage that ruined the whole pizza. It tasted like shrimp, and I have a love hate relationship with shrimp. I always think I like shrimp, and I do once I start eating it, but after a few bites, I realize, once again, I don’t like it as much as I thought. When I buy sausage, even chicken sausage, shrimp is certainly not what I expect to taste, and it was not enjoyable. Yes, the pizza experience was ruined, but thanks to my great ability to pick gross things off of pizzas, it was very difficult to not enjoy the amazing taste that the pizza sauce always tends to create. Every once in a while we learn how to make a great thing better by knowing how to see the good through the bad.
